Trump announces Adam Telle will serve as acting US Army secretary
US President Donald Trump announced that Adam Telle will immediately begin serving as acting US Army secretary, Breaking Defense reports. He will temporarily hold the highest civilian position in the US Army.
Telle will assume the duties following the resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. According to the outlet, Driscoll submitted his resignation on Monday and left office on September 3.
Telle’s previous position
Previously, Telle served as assistant secretary of the US Army for civil works. His nomination for this position was confirmed by the US Senate.
According to a biography released by the US Army, he previously led the staff of Republican Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee. Telle also served as Trump’s chief representative in dealings with the US Senate and held other positions related to work with Congress.

Telle will bypass Under Secretary of the Army Michael Obadal in the line of succession. As Breaking Defense notes, the deputy secretary usually serves as the acting head of the department when the position becomes vacant.
Vacancies in Army leadership
Telle will serve as acting secretary amid the modernization of the US Army. At the same time, the service has no confirmed leaders in the highest civilian position or in the position of Army chief of staff.
In April, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth removed General Randy George from the position of Army chief of staff. Since then, his deputy, General Christopher LaNeve, has been serving as acting chief of staff. The White House has still not formally nominated LaNeve for the position amid reports of bipartisan concerns about his qualifications.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said last week that the department is coordinating with senators on the optimal time to formally submit LaNeve’s nomination.
