Trump Threatened Economic Consequences for Countries That Help Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that any country that assists Iran or does business with it will face severe economic consequences. He wrote this on the social media platform Truth Social, according to BBC News.
Trump announced the launch of what he called the most devastating economic operation ever waged against any country. He also called it an “economic D-Day” for Iran and attributed this decision to the Islamic Republic’s failure to reach an agreement with the U.S.
According to the U.S. president, the consequences will affect countries whose financial institutions, companies, airports, or government agencies provide any support to Iran. At the same time, Trump did not specify exactly what measures such countries might face. He also called for an end to oil smuggling, currency swaps, money transfers, the operation of currency exchange offices, ship registration, and the use of intermediary companies.

BBC News notes that the statement came after the 60-day ceasefire with Iran ended on Monday. The publication also reports that this move likely continues “Operation Economic Fury,” a campaign of pressure launched in April to impose sanctions on foreign banks or companies doing business with Tehran.
Nearly a week before Trump’s announcement, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that Washington intends to economically isolate Iran in a way the world has never seen before.
