Trump Approved a Nuclear Deal with Saudi Arabia — WSJ
U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a nuclear energy agreement with Saudi Arabia that could pave the way for the country to enrich uranium.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the agreement calls for U.S. companies to play a key role in developing Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure. At the same time, its implementation is intended to limit the participation of foreign competitors in this project.
As The Wall Street Journal notes, the potential for uranium enrichment under the terms of the agreement is one of its most sensitive aspects, since such technologies can be used both to produce fuel for nuclear power plants and, under certain conditions, to produce materials for military purposes.
The implementation of the agreements is expected to strengthen the position of U.S. companies in the Saudi civil nuclear energy market and reinforce strategic cooperation between Washington and Riyadh.
