Trump nominates Congressman Wesley Hunt as US ambassador to Saudi Arabia
US President Donald Trump has nominated Texas Congressman Wesley Hunt for the post of US ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The position had remained vacant for several months.
Experience in the region
Hunt called accepting the nomination “the honor of a lifetime.” In a post on X, he said that he had served in the region as a US Army officer, including in combat conditions, and had also worked for two years as a diplomatic liaison in the kingdom. According to him, he understands the strategic importance of the partnership between the United States and Saudi Arabia, as well as the responsibility of the position.
The congressman has held office since 2023. Before entering politics, he served in the US Army, and this year he unsuccessfully ran for the Senate.

Consideration of the nomination
As The National reports, Trump submitted Hunt’s nomination along with other nominations sent to the Senate on Monday. According to the publication, both chambers of Congress must approve the nomination for the appointment.
The publication notes that if confirmed, Hunt will take office amid the war between the United States and Iran. According to The National, Saudi Arabia and other US allies in the Persian Gulf were among the main targets during this conflict. In recent days, Riyadh has exchanged strikes with Yemen’s Houthis, who attacked Saudi energy infrastructure.
US ambassadorial posts also remain vacant in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq and Egypt.
