Trump announced his intention to change the regime in Cuba once the conflict with Iran is over

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington intends to seek regime change in Cuba once the standoff with Iran is resolved.

Speaking to reporters, the White House chief noted that the U.S. administration has “very good plans” for Cuba and considers it necessary to remove the island’s current government.

“We will deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and after that we will pause briefly to address this issue. We want to help them,” Trump said.

Against the backdrop of these statements, the U.S. Treasury Department announced a new package of sanctions against members of the Cuban leadership.

The sanctions target Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, members of his family, as well as the son and grandson of former leader Raúl Castro—Alejandro Castro Espín and Raúl Alejandro Castro Calis.

In addition, sanctions were imposed against the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, the Cuban Institute of Friendship Among Peoples, the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, and a number of other state agencies.

The new restrictions mark another step by Washington to increase pressure on the Cuban government amid tense relations between the two countries.
