Trump announced that an agreement had been signed between the U.S. and Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran. According to him, the parties have signed the relevant document, and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s key maritime routes for oil transportation—has been announced.
“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken effect. Congratulations to everyone! With this, I fully authorize the unimpeded opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, at the same time, authorize the immediate lifting of the naval blockade by the U.S. Navy. Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump wrote.
Just 10 minutes earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced on social media platform X that the U.S. and Iran had reached an agreement.
“Following intensive negotiations, we are pleased to announce that a peace agreement has been reached between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.
According to Sharif, both sides have declared an immediate and definitive cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.
“The official signing ceremony will take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland,” the Pakistani prime minister added.
He also noted that following the conclusion of the agreement, mediators will hold a series of meetings this week. These discussions will lay the groundwork for technical negotiations and the official signing ceremony.
Subsequently, after an agreement was reached between Iran and the U.S., its details became known. Specifically, the memorandum between the two warring countries provides for: a 60-day ceasefire, including a halt to Israeli military operations in Lebanon; the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of free navigation in the region (which may not happen immediately – ed.); a negotiation process between Washington and Tehran regarding the latter’s nuclear program, including the disposal of enriched uranium.
In addition, the U.S. will commit to discussing the easing of sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian funds, provided Tehran fulfills the conditions.
