According to Lloyd’s List, a British shipping analysis firm, tanker traffic at the Saudi port of Yanbu on the Red Sea has dropped by more than a third. The company attributes this to the reduction following the announcement last month by the Yemeni Houthi group of a blockade of Saudi ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Lloyd’s List also reports that Saudi Arabia is rerouting oil exports via shuttle tankers, the Egyptian SUMED pipeline, and the port of Sidi Kerir on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. According to the company’s assessment, this system requires more vessels and adds weeks to the transit time for cargo destined for Asia.
