Nigeria’s transport union endorses Governor Lawal for a second term

The National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria (NURTW) has endorsed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for re-election in 2027. During an event at the Dome pavilion at the Government House in Gusau, the union also presented him with an award for his contribution to the development of the state’s transport sector and infrastructure.

Support for re-election

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the NURTW’s decision was announced by the governor’s spokesperson, Suleiman Bala Idris. The union delegation was led by the chairman of its council, Najim Usman Yasin. It also included NURTW National President Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, and other representatives of the organization.

Yasin said that the union’s leadership had monitored Lawal’s work throughout his three years in office. On behalf of the NURTW, he announced support for the governor in the 2027 election and urged union members to help secure his re-election.

Governor’s statements

Lawal stated that his administration had distributed 50 subsidized vehicles for mass transit among NURTW members. According to him, the decision was intended to help improve the welfare of transport workers and passenger transportation.

The governor also reported a large-scale renovation of the NURTW council secretariat in Zamfara State. He described a safe and efficient transport sector as an important condition for the development of the state’s economy.
