In Bangladesh, Saima Wazed, the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for South-East Asia and the daughter of the country’s ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has resigned. According to The Hindu International, this occurred amid investigations by the WHO and Bangladeshi authorities over allegations of possible fraud.

Administrative leave

Wazed took up the position of WHO Regional Director in early 2024. She was appointed for a five-year term. At the end of 2025, the WHO placed her on unpaid administrative leave.
