Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the development of Polish-Ukrainian relations must be based on mutual goodwill. According to him, constructive dialogue is impossible if only one side demonstrates a willingness to cooperate.
The prime minister commented on the meeting between the Polish and Ukrainian foreign ministers, Radosław Sikorski and Andriy Sybiga.
“I have indications that the Ukrainian side has come to realize that it is worth seeking ways to have an honest conversation, including about the past, and that it is not worth escalating these tensions,” he said, adding that the Ukrainian side is precisely the one responsible for the tensions.
“We’ll see; this is likely to be a lengthy process, but, as you know, I am convinced that good Ukrainian-Polish relations are in our mutual interest, though they require goodwill on Kyiv’s part. It cannot be the case that only Warsaw constantly demonstrates goodwill. But I would like this firm stance not to be marked by contempt or hostility, because that will not lead to anything sensible,” added the head of the Polish government.
