A heat warning has been issued in 25 cities across Italy
On Monday, August 3, a red alert was issued in 25 cities across Italy due to extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 40°C. The country’s Ministry of Health warned of health risks not only for vulnerable groups but for all residents, according to “European Truth,” citing Euronews.
Only Messina and Reggio di Calabria were not included on the list of cities with the highest danger level. At the same time, the Civil Protection Agency issued a yellow alert due to the risk of thunderstorms in some areas of Abruzzo, Umbria, and Sicily.

According to forecasts, Italy will remain under the influence of a powerful subtropical high-pressure system covering a significant part of the Mediterranean for several more days. Temperatures will remain well above the seasonal average for this time of year. In the inland regions of Central Italy and across most of the Po Valley, daytime temperatures will reach 38–39°C, and in areas most prone to heat buildup, temperatures may approach 40°C.
The heat will most severely affect the Emilia-Romagna plain, the southern part of Veneto, southeastern Lombardy, Umbria, as well as the inland regions of Tuscany and Lazio. The Italian Ministry of Health notes that a Level 3 alert indicates an emergency situation with potential health risks even for young and physically healthy people. The ministry advises limiting time spent outdoors during the hottest hours of the day, drinking water more frequently, and paying special attention to the elderly, children, and people in high-risk groups. The high-pressure system is expected to weaken around August 8–9, when unstable air masses from the Atlantic may move into the north of the country, potentially causing thunderstorms and the first drop in temperatures.
