In Britain, Palestinian lives in asylum seeker housing after imprisonment — Jerusalem Post
In Corby, United Kingdom, Palestinian Abu Wadei, who served a nine-month prison sentence for attempting to enter the country without permission or a valid entry document, is living in taxpayer-funded accommodation for asylum seekers. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post, citing the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
Sentence for attempting to enter without permission
According to the publication, the man is also known as Mosab Abdulkarim al-Ghassas. He pleaded guilty to attempting to enter the United Kingdom on a small boat without permission or a valid entry document and served a nine-month prison sentence.
The Jerusalem Post previously reported that Abu Wadei was arrested in the United Kingdom after arriving by boat with migrants in Kent in 2025. The Northamptonshire Telegraph reported that after his release, he has been living in a shared house in the Lloyds residential area of Corby with three other migrants. According to the newspaper, the man wears an electronic tag.
Deportation issue
British media write that the UK Home Office wants to deport Abu Wadei but is facing difficulties because of policies on returning people to areas of active conflict. The department does not comment on individual cases, but a government spokesperson said that every foreign national sentenced to imprisonment in the United Kingdom is referred for consideration of deportation at the earliest opportunity and is barred from re-entering the country.

Statements and social media activity
The Jerusalem Post claims that the man’s social media contains photographs and videos with weapons, as well as statements calling for the killing of Jews. The publication also writes that he regularly posts TikTok videos from central Corby, including clips in which he urges local youth to chant “Free Palestine.” According to the newspaper, he has about 20,000 followers on the platform.
The Home Office said that the average cost of accommodating one person in asylum seeker housing, including shared houses, is £23.25 per day. People in the asylum system may also receive payments of up to £49.18 per week.
