The Bundestag criticized Merz for his stance on aid to Ukraine

Representatives of the Green Party in the Bundestag criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his stance on supporting Ukraine.

In particular, the politician was accused of justifying the decision not to supply Ukraine with Taurus long-range cruise missiles.

Die Welt reports on this.

Ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Berlin, the political party called on the German government to increase military support for Kyiv, specifically by supplying long-range missiles.

The delivery of German Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine is “long overdue,” said Agnieszka Brügger, deputy chair of the Green Party’s parliamentary group.

"Friedrich Merz has become the new Olaf Scholz on this issue with his excuses," Brügger criticized the chancellor, referring to his predecessor from the Social Democratic Party, who also firmly rejected the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

"Due to Donald Trump’s policies and Russia’s destruction of energy infrastructure this winter, the list of arguments in favor of supplying Taurus has only grown. Ukraine is not turning to Germany as a supplicant. In the current global situation, while defending itself against brutal Russian military terror, it has become a guarantor of security," the MP stated.

Brügger also called on the German government to learn from Ukraine’s experience in waging war.

"Many European governments could take a cue from Ukraine’s resolve. We urgently need to adopt their experience. That is why it is all the more irresponsible that the federal government, contrary to all its promises, is still not doing everything it could," she added.

Merz will meet with Zelenskyy in Berlin.

Merz has become the least popular leader among democracies.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that there is currently no alternative to NATO, and the alliance must be preserved and developed.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced his intention to secure the return of a significant portion of Syrian refugees to their homeland. This refers to about 80% of the more than 900,000 Syrians currently residing in Germany.
