Czech police detained a 35-year-old man suspected of stealing the 800-year-old skull of the saint from a church in northern Czechia on May 13.
The incident occurred at the Basilica of St. Lawrence and St. Zdislava in the town of Jablonné v Podještědí, approximately 110 km north of Prague.
Law enforcement officials noted that investigators managed to obtain information about the whereabouts of the rare relic.
Regional police spokeswoman Ivana Baláková was asked whether the skull was in police custody.
“We know with great certainty where it is, and we are working on it. It’s complicated; I can’t say more than that,” she said.
Saint Zdislava of Lemberk lived in the 13th century and was known for her charity and aid to the poor. She was canonized in 1995 by Pope John Paul II.
