917 families displaced in Yemen’s Taiz by fighting over two days
In Yemen’s western province of Taiz, 917 families were displaced from their homes over two days due to intensified fighting between government forces and the Houthis. Preliminary data on displacement on Thursday and Friday were released by the Taiz office of Yemen’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
As Anadolu Agency reports, people left the Maqbanah district and nearby areas, including Jabal Habashi. The escalation of hostilities forced residents to leave several settlements and camps for internally displaced persons. Residential areas and sites housing displaced people also came under shelling.
Displacement from districts and camps
Families left the settlements of Ozel al-Yaman, Al-Abdallah and Al-Ashmalah in Maqbanah, as well as Al-Jubb camp. People also left Al-Rahbah and Al-Raji camps in Jabal Habashi. They moved to safer areas of Jabal Habashi and Al-Ma'afer.

The ministry office said the number of displaced families could rise if the fighting continues. According to its data, many families were forced to leave without warning, abandoning their belongings and essential items, and are now in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
Fighting on several fronts
Since Thursday morning, intense clashes have continued on several fronts in Taiz and the neighboring province of Hodeidah, near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Local media, citing military sources, reported dozens of dead and wounded among government troops and Houthi fighters. There are also civilian dead and wounded as a result of shelling, but there are currently no consolidated official casualty figures.
The ministry office appealed to local and international humanitarian organizations to urgently provide the families with temporary shelter, food, drinking water and sanitation services.
