Jerusalem displays portraits of October 7 victims and hostages — Jerusalem Post
In Jerusalem, Israel, from September 23 to October 8, the exhibition “Faces of October 7” is being displayed, dedicated to people who were killed, taken hostage, or died during the October 7, 2023 attack. The exhibition is being held at the StandWithUs Katz Education Center at 2 George Washington Street, the Jerusalem Post reports in a column by a representative of StandWithUs Israel.
Portraits and family stories
The exhibition combines portraits with personal stories, videos, interactive installations, and virtual reality elements. The subjects of the works include people who returned alive from captivity, as well as those whose bodies were returned to Israel for burial. The exhibition also tells about Nova festival attendees, families killed in their own homes, civilians who tried to save others, and fallen Israel Defense Forces service members.
The portraits were created by graffiti artist Benzi Brofman in cooperation with the families. According to the author of the publication, on October 6, 2023, Brofman was supposed to paint live at the Unity Festival in Re’im, but decided to return home that same day. He later put aside commercial projects and began creating portraits of the deceased, hostages, and fallen Israeli military personnel free of charge.

Continuation of the exhibition
A previous version of the “Faces of October 7” exhibition was opened in Jerusalem in September 2024. The column’s author notes that over two years, some of the stories alongside the portraits have changed: some people returned from captivity, others were brought to Israel for burial, while some families continue to live with the loss of loved ones.
The author, who is deputy director of StandWithUs Israel, argues that alongside the war, there is a struggle over the facts and memory of the events of October 7. He writes about the spread of event denial, conspiracy theories, and disinformation, as well as StandWithUs’s work with educational materials, personal testimonies, and the refutation of false information.
