EU operated over 2 million commercial flights over the summer — Anadolu Agency
European Union countries operated more than 2 million commercial flights from June to August 2026. The highest monthly figure was recorded in July, with 709,931 flights, up 2.8% from the same month of the previous year.
Summer traffic dynamics
In August, 708,980 commercial flights were operated, up 2.3% year on year. In June, air traffic amounted to 662,480 flights, 2.1% higher than in June of the previous year.
According to Anadolu Agency, Eurostat released the statistics. In August, the number of commercial flights increased in 19 EU countries, while it declined in eight member states compared with August last year.

Countries with the largest changes
The largest annual increase in the number of flights in August was recorded in Slovakia, at 37%. It was followed by Malta, with an increase of 12.4%, and Estonia, where the figure rose by 8.3%.
The most significant decline was registered in Austria, at 4.7%. In Cyprus, the number of flights decreased by 3%, and in Germany by 2.4%.
