The French archipelago of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, located near the coast of Newfoundland, relies heavily on Canada for the supply of goods, transport and seafood trade. Attention was drawn to the territory by visits from French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Supplies from Canada
Despite belonging to France, the islands are closely connected to neighboring Canada. As Euronews reports, the archipelago's only large supermarket receives deliveries from Canada once a week. The store maintains stocks of goods that can last for up to eight weeks.
