The European Commission has called Russia's nuclear threats against NATO a trap

The European Union condemns Russia’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric and will not spread hostile intimidation tactics in the information space. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand during a briefing in Brussels, commenting on Moscow’s letter to NATO, which contained nuclear threats.

The official emphasized that Brussels welcomes the Alliance’s clear response and has no intention of falling into Russia’s trap aimed at sowing fear. The European Commission also confirmed that it is in close contact with NATO regarding the Russian threats, though it is not disclosing details of this communication.

The Russian Federation—an aggressor state—warned NATO in a diplomatic note that it is prepared to use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, if Alliance countries attempt to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of Russia.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that Europe should reconsider the balance of military, economic, and diplomatic tools and prioritize diplomacy in its relations with Russia. According to him, further escalation could lead to the risk of a Russian nuclear strike.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the North Atlantic Alliance sees no immediate threat to its territory and regards nuclear blackmail by Russia as an attempt to divert attention from its own defeats in Ukraine.
