Several government employees in France were fired following drug tests
In France, several government employees were fired after testing positive for drugs. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced this, according to “European Truth,” citing dpa.
According to the prime minister, many of the employees who were tested had access to “highly confidential” information. Lecornu explained that the tests were primarily motivated by security concerns, although they were also intended to set an example.
The prime minister stated that the testing is intended to bolster the government’s authority in the campaign against drug-related crime. He called the drug trade “the most serious domestic challenge” that France is currently facing and will continue to face in the coming years.
Lecornu emphasized that the problem affects all segments of society, and politicians are no exception. According to him, the anti-drug campaign will only be credible if those leading it behave impeccably.
The testing program will be conducted on a selective basis and will not be a one-time event. Earlier, TF1 reported on surprise tests at the Hôtel de Matignon—the prime minister’s official residence and offices; the test results for Lecornu and his staff were negative at the time.
