CNN: US strikes tankers near Iran’s Kharg Island
According to Anadolu Agency, citing CNN and two US officials, US forces on Tuesday struck several tankers linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps near Iran’s Kharg Island.
Attempted missile attack
US officials said the strikes came after Iran attempted to attack a US Navy ship with a missile.
According to CNN, one of the tankers was hit approximately four miles, or 6.4 kilometers, from Kharg Island. Anadolu Agency described the island as an important hub for Iranian oil exports.

US strategy in the strait area
CNN also reported that the strikes are part of a broader US strategy targeting Iranian assets in the Strait of Hormuz area. According to the broadcaster, it includes escorting commercial vessels and maintaining a naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The events are taking place amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. This occurred despite the signing of a memorandum in June that provided for an agreement to open the strategic waterway as a prerequisite for a broader peace settlement.
