In Poland, a train collided with a concrete mixer and derailed

In the Mazovia Voivodeship of Poland, a PKP Intercity passenger train collided with a concrete mixer truck and derailed. At least one person was killed, about 20 passengers were injured, and four of the injured are in critical condition.

The accident occurred in the Mazovia Province. The PKP Intercity train was traveling from Lublin to Szczecin. At the time of the collision, there were about 120 passengers on board. After the impact, the train derailed.

According to preliminary reports, one person died as a result of the accident. Another 20 people sustained injuries of varying severity. Rescue workers and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. Some of the victims required immediate medical attention following the accident.

Four people are in critical condition

Rescue workers reported that some of the victims have serious injuries. “At this point, we can say that several dozen people were injured. Four people sustained serious injuries, including two train conductors and a truck driver,” Baltovska said.

The concrete mixer driver was transported to the hospital by a helicopter from the Air Ambulance Service. “The truck driver was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Four other people are in serious condition,” said Captain Marcin Kowalski of the Przysucha Fire Department. According to rescue workers, all the people who were on the train and involved in the accident have already been evacuated from the cars. In other words, no passengers remained inside the train after the rescue operations were completed.

Ambulances and two helicopters are on the scene

Significant emergency response resources have been deployed to address the aftermath of the accident. Eight ambulances are on the scene. In addition, two medical helicopters have arrived at the accident site.

Medical personnel examined the passengers and determined who required hospitalization. Some people received treatment directly at the scene. Those who did not suffer serious injuries and did not require hospitalization began to be transported away from the accident site.

A medical aid station was set up for the passengers

Some passengers have already been transported to the village of Skryno. There, local authorities have set up a temporary aid station. Krzysztof Sobczak, head of the Vienava community, said that a large library building was used for this purpose. “There is a large library there, where we’ve set up an aid station for those who were least affected—those who do not require medical attention, have already received the necessary care, or have only superficial injuries,” he said.

At this center, passengers can rest and receive the necessary assistance following the accident. Meanwhile, emergency services continue to work at the scene of the collision. The circumstances of the accident and the reasons why the concrete mixer ended up on the train tracks are to be determined by the relevant authorities. The exact number of casualties may be subject to change. Likewise, there is currently no complete information on the condition of all the people who were on the train. This was reported by Polsat.
