Two men die in Ghana after incident in mine shaft — MyJoyOnline

In the Juaboso district of Ghana’s Western North Region, two men died after an incident at a mining site. They were pulled from a mine shaft and taken to Juaboso Government Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.

The men were found the following morning

As MyJoyOnline reports, at around noon on September 26, two men descended into the shaft to engage in mineral extraction. According to preliminary information, they became unwell underground. Excessive heat and insufficient ventilation in the shaft are cited among the possible factors.

On the morning of September 27, when the men had not returned, an acquaintance descended to find out what had happened. He found both of them in critical condition and raised the alarm. Residents and other community members organized a rescue operation.

The identity of the second deceased man has not been established

One of the deceased was Richard Oduro, known as “Churches,” a resident of Juaboso. The identity of the second man, who, according to available information, was not from this community, has not yet been established. Authorities have not yet officially determined the circumstances of the incident or the exact cause of death of the two men.
