Ghana to discuss attempted arrest of MP and water debt — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana on Saturday, September 26, the flagship current affairs programme Newsfile on JoyNews will discuss the reported attempt to detain Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, efforts to combat drug trafficking, cases related to speech and online activity, and debt connected to a desalination plant. Attempted detention of an MP
Host Samson Lardy Anyenini and guests will examine the circumstances of the reported confrontation between the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO. The discussion will address constitutional issues concerning parliamentary immunity, detention procedures, and the limits of law enforcement powers.
Participants will also discuss whether parliamentary privileges protect MPs from arrest and how they should be reconciled with ongoing investigations.

Drugs, speech and the water project

Programme participants will discuss President John Dramani Mahama's call for restraint in cases related to speech and online activity. At the same time, the continued detention of a nurse, whose case has prompted public discussion about freedom of speech and the application of rules on online content, will be in focus.
The final topic will be a $235 million debt connected to a desalination plant. According to the programme, construction of the facility cost about $126 million, but it currently does not provide the expected water supply. Guests will examine the project's financial implications for the state and possible ways to resolve the problem.
