UAE president discusses bilateral relations with Israeli prime minister — Jerusalem Post

United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed bilateral relations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the UAE on Sunday. The Emirates’ state news agency WAM reported this, The Jerusalem Post writes.

First confirmation from the UAE

The WAM report was the first official confirmation by the Emirates of Netanyahu’s visit. The Israeli prime minister’s office said on Monday that he had arrived in the UAE at the invitation of the country’s president.

According to Netanyahu’s office, the talks focused on strengthening relations between the two states and regional challenges. Three senior Israeli officials told the publication that the meeting lasted six hours and focused on Iran.

Previous denial of the meeting

Earlier this year, the UAE denied a meeting between Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Netanyahu after the Israeli prime minister’s office reported his secret visit to the country in May. A source familiar with the course of that meeting claimed that Netanyahu and the UAE president met on March 26 in Al Ain, an oasis city in the emirate of Abu Dhabi near the border with Oman.

The UAE and Israel established diplomatic relations as a result of the 2020 Abraham Accords.
