In Ghana, UPSA reports more than 500 results changed by 178 students — MyJoyOnline

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Ghana reported detecting interference with the academic results of 178 students. According to the university, more than 500 results were changed in its system.

Investigation at the university

Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwaku Mensa Mawutor reported the incident during UPSA’s 18th graduation ceremony. According to him, students and other individuals gained unauthorized access to the university system and altered academic results.

As MyJoyOnline reports, the investigation found, according to the vice-chancellor, that 178 students changed more than 500 results. Some students admitted after the investigation that they had paid other people to alter results. Others, Mawutor said, denied involvement, while some acknowledged receiving money from colleagues for facilitating such changes.

The graduation of some students was postponed

Some students whom the university considers involved in the interference were due to complete their studies during the 18th graduation ceremony. UPSA postponed their graduation indefinitely while investigations and disciplinary procedures continue.

Professor Mawutor called the incident unacceptable. He also noted that this was not the first such case at the university, but that the current one was significant in scale. The vice-chancellor commended the Directorate of Information Systems and Technology and the investigative committee, which detected the interference and helped identify those involved.
