In Ghana, calls were made to modernize Category B and C schools
In Ghana, Daniel Kwamena Essel, founder of Crown of Glory Schools, called on the authorities to modernize Category B and C senior high schools by providing them with proper infrastructure and sufficient numbers of teachers. In his view, this would make such institutions more attractive to students and help reduce inequality in access to quality education.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Essel spoke about this during the school's graduation ceremony in Akatakyiwa, in the Mfantseman Municipality of Ghana's Central Region. He described problems with the placement of students in senior high schools as a nationwide issue.
Student placement
According to Essel, due to competition for a limited number of places in Category A schools, not all candidates can enroll in their preferred institutions. At the same time, he expressed concern over reports that students with comparatively better results were not offered places at the schools they preferred.

He also drew attention to reports of candidates who were not placed in their second-choice schools under the Category B placement mechanism, although they were said to meet the requirements. In the school founder's view, the placement procedure should be reviewed to ensure fairness and transparency for qualified students.
Staff and infrastructure
Essel linked the popularity of Category A schools to the number of teachers and the level of infrastructure. According to him, some such institutions have an excess of staff, while schools in other categories face a shortage of teachers, and teachers are not assigned for some subjects at all.
He called on the government, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to direct teachers to institutions where they are needed most. Crown of Glory Schools graduated 37 students from the Class of 2026; during the ceremony, graduates were also urged to maintain discipline, integrity and diligence.
