Ghana palm wine tapper sentenced to 10 years for stabbing farmer
The Tarkwa Circuit Court in Ghana sentenced 50-year-old palm wine tapper Obedi Brekpo to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for repeatedly stabbing a farmer. The man pleaded guilty to a charge of causing harm, MyJoyOnline reports.
Attack circumstances
According to the prosecution, the victim, Paul Dabuo, and Brekpo lived next door to each other in the Cape Town area of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality. On the morning of June 30, 2026, Brekpo asked Dabuo to take him by motorcycle to New Atuabo, a suburb of Tarkwa, to collect money owed to him by a customer.
When the men arrived at the customer’s residence, he was still asleep. According to the prosecutor, Brekpo and Dabuo were sitting on the motorcycle and discussing what to do next when Brekpo suddenly pulled out a folding knife concealed in his clothing and stabbed the farmer several times in the back and abdomen.

Arrest and sentence
The prosecutor also said that Brekpo bit Dabuo twice on the back. When the victim tried to take the knife away, he suffered cuts to the fingers of his left hand. Brekpo then fled, while local residents found Dabuo bleeding heavily and took him to hospital.
Later that day, Dabuo reported the incident to Tarkwa police. Brekpo was arrested on July 7, 2026. During questioning, he admitted what he had done and told investigators that he did not know what came over him. Judge Bernice Mensima Akon found him guilty based on his guilty plea and handed down the sentence.
