At Least Five Killed in Gaza as Storm Triggers Collapses and Cold Deaths
At least five people have been killed in Gaza after a severe winter storm caused the collapse of buildings previously damaged by the war. Several others, including young children, died due to extreme cold.
Heavy rain, strong winds and plunging temperatures have worsened conditions for tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians, many of whom are living in flimsy tents and makeshift shelters unable to withstand the weather.
Civil defence teams reported multiple fatalities after buildings collapsed in different parts of Gaza. Hospitals also confirmed the death of an infant who succumbed to hypothermia inside a tent.
Medical facilities across the enclave have seen a surge in patients, particularly children, suffering from cold-related illnesses. Emergency services say they have received hundreds of distress calls as shelters are damaged or blown away by the storm.
Civil defence officials warned of catastrophic consequences, stressing that much of Gaza’s population lacks adequate shelter and that restrictions on humanitarian aid and essential supplies continue to aggravate the crisis.
