In Hong Kong, the former husband of model and influencer Abby Choi, Alex Kwong, his father Kwong Kau, and his brother Anthony Kwong appeared before a court. They are accused of the murder of 28-year-old Choi, parts of whose dismembered body were found by police in a house in the city’s suburbs in 2023.

Defendants’ position

According to Channel NewsAsia, all three pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Judge Brian Keith informed the panel of nine jurors of this. If found guilty, they face life imprisonment.

The men are also charged with preventing the lawful burial of a body. Alex Kwong and Anthony Kwong pleaded guilty to this charge.

Financial disputes

Prosecutors told the court that there had been financial disputes between Choi and her former husband’s family over luxury property that she had purchased for them.

Choi had two children with Alex Kwong. After their divorce, she married Chris Tam, with whom she also had two children. The model had more than 140,000 followers on Instagram and published photos from Paris Fashion Week a few days before her death. The hearing was adjourned until Friday, and the trial is expected to last until December.
