Police officer killed, another wounded in Karachi attack — Dawn
In Karachi, Pakistan, a police officer was killed and another sustained gunshot wounds during an attack near the airport on Sharea Faisal Road. According to Dawn, the incident occurred on Wednesday near Colony Gate.
Patrol fired upon
Malir district Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said that patrol officers noticed a man in a rickshaw and two motorcyclists and stopped them to check their documents. One of the motorcyclists said he did not have a computerized national identity card but showed the police officer a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
After that, according to the official, the man pulled out a pistol and opened fire. Constable Asad Asmatullah was killed at the scene, while Constable Amir Khan was wounded. The suspects managed to flee.

Pirzada said investigators were checking the vaccination certificate to establish the possible identities of the attackers. In the evening, police said they had detained two suspects and were searching for a third possible accomplice.
Incident in New Karachi
On the same day, police also reported the death of a robbery suspect during an alleged shootout in the New Karachi area. According to law enforcement, near the government women’s college in Sector 11, police ordered two motorcyclists to stop for a check, but they opened fire.
Police said that during the ensuing shootout, one of the men was wounded and detained, but he died on the way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased was identified as Meraj, also known as Merry.
