Four people were arrested in Kenya in connection with the deaths of 18 elephants
In Kenya, law enforcement officials have detained four people in connection with the mass death of elephants in the Amboseli region. Another person who may be involved in the incident is currently being sought.
Between June 24 and July 31, the bodies of 16 elephants were discovered in Amboseli National Park and adjacent protected areas. Two additional elephant deaths were later reported.
According to preliminary reports, the elephants died of cyanide poisoning after eating tomatoes contaminated with pesticides from neighboring farms.
During searches, law enforcement officials seized chemicals and other materials. The agency noted that these substances may have originated from a neighboring country.
The seized materials were unlabeled and may have been toxic. They are currently being tested in laboratories as part of the investigation.
