At Kerem Shalom kibbutz in Israel, a wedding was held for the first time since the October 7 attack. Sivan, who grew up in this community, and her partner Meir held the celebration by the kibbutz pool near the border with the Gaza Strip. Relatives, friends, and community residents attended.
Celebration after evacuation
As the Jerusalem Post reports, no large-scale celebrations had taken place in Kerem Shalom after the October 7 attack and the subsequent evacuation of the community. Some wedding guests only recently returned to live in the kibbutz after a prolonged absence.
The couple decided to marry in the very place where Sivan grew up. For community residents, the event became a symbol of returning to normal life and the restoration of the kibbutz.

Administration statement
The Kerem Shalom administration called the couple's decision to marry in the kibbutz “the greatest victory” for the community. It noted that the community had endured extremely difficult events, fallen apart, and then been rebuilt; residents returned to the kibbutz a year and several months ago.
The community also stated that the choice to create a new family specifically in Kerem Shalom is a touching confirmation of the desire “to continue living and growing out of great love for this place.” The wedding took place several weeks before the third anniversary of the October 7 attack.
