Nepal’s finance minister meets Jaishankar in New Delhi — The Hindu
In New Delhi, India, Nepal’s Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on September 18. According to The Hindu, the sides discussed Nepal’s plans for recovery following recent flash floods and a reset of relations between the two countries.
The meeting took place amid preparations for a visit by Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah to Delhi, expected later this year.
Economy, energy and connectivity
Jaishankar said he expressed deep condolences to Wagle over the recent floods. In a social media post, the Indian minister said the sides discussed strengthening overall cooperation, including in the economic and energy spheres and in connectivity.

A day before meeting Jaishankar, Wagle held talks with Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The topics of those talks were Nepal’s recovery after the floods and strengthening economic ties between the countries.
Resetting relations
Wagle’s visit to Delhi followed a June trip by Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal. These contacts are taking place amid a call by Rastriya Swatantra Party chairman Rabi Lamichhane to reset relations between Delhi and Kathmandu, which in recent years have been complicated by border and economic issues.
