China’s 88-year-old fashion blogger “Fashion Grandpa” dies
Popular fashion blogger known on social media as “Fashion Grandpa” has died in China at the age of 88. In the publication, he is also referred to as Grandpa Kang. According to his family, he died in his sleep in early September. This was reported by ECNS.
The family announced the blogger’s death in a post on the short-video platform Douyin. In accordance with his wishes, his loved ones held a simple farewell ceremony. In his final message to followers, he said: “My story with you has come to an end, but please continue writing your own life stories.”
Popularity on social media
Grandpa Kang gained widespread popularity in 2020, when he was 83 years old. In videos, he appeared in carefully selected looks, wearing hats, sunglasses and stylish clothing. His Douyin account has 5.787 million followers and more than 130 million likes.

Videos featuring the blogger and his grandson resonated with millions of users. He stressed that age should not determine a person’s way of life. “The way you dress shows your respect for others and, more importantly, your attitude toward life,” he said.
Illness and final videos
Before becoming popular online, Grandpa Kang worked for more than four decades as a communications technology instructor at a university in Wuhan. In May 2025, he told followers that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
During treatment, the blogger posted videos about his condition and addressed people who were also ill. He advised them to eat what they liked if it was difficult to eat much, and to rest when exhausted. He also spoke about older people’s fear of losing their sense of self-worth and expressed hope that his outlook on life would help others not lose hope.
