Cargo ship with 10 crew members sinks in Sea of Marmara near Istanbul — Euronews
The cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu, carrying 10 crew members, sank in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul after colliding with a tanker. Turkish rescuers are conducting a search operation, Euronews reports, citing Turkish officials.
Collision before dawn
According to the maritime directorate of Turkey’s Ministry of Transport, the incident occurred before dawn. The empty oil tanker ALSU collided with the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which was carrying 4,200 tonnes of coiled sheet steel. The cargo ship sank shortly after the collision.
The ALSU captain reported the collision at 03:15. It occurred 18 nautical miles, or 33 kilometers, from the Silivri area in the west of Istanbul province.

Search for the crew
Fourteen search-and-rescue vessels and a helicopter were dispatched to the accident area. Rescue equipment, including a lifeboat belonging to the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, was found at sea, but no crew members were aboard it.
The maritime directorate said that the Tuğberk İmamoğlu was not responding to calls and that crew members were not answering mobile phone calls. Therefore, the agency believes the cargo ship has sunk. The ALSU tanker, which was damaged in the collision, also joined the search-and-rescue operation.
