59 million liters of fuel seized in Mexico — Mexico News Daily
In the Mexican state of Guanajuato, law enforcement officers seized more than 59 million liters of fuel that authorities link to theft. According to Mexico News Daily, this is the largest single seizure of its kind in the country’s history.
The operation took place at a facility near the small community of La Fragua in the municipality of San José Iturbide, next to Federal Highway 57. State and federal agents seized 10 tanks containing suspected fuel — diesel, regular gasoline and premium gasoline — three tanker trucks, fuel transportation containers and documentation.
The investigation began after an arrest
The investigation began after the July 3 arrest of a person found unloading approximately 30,000 liters of fuel at a gas station in San Luis de la Paz. Several weeks later, law enforcement also reported another arrest at a liquefied gas sales point in Dolores Hidalgo.

According to the authorities, the suspects did not provide documents that would allow the origin of the fuel to be traced. After investigators identified the facility in La Fragua as the probable storage location, a court issued a search warrant.
Materials were transferred to the federal prosecutor’s office
Guanajuato Security Minister Juan Mauro González Martínez said that investigating possible illegal fuel operations helps reduce the risks of fires, explosions and leaks, and may also hinder the financing of criminal organizations.
The facility had access roads for trucks and railcars, while the capacity of its large tanks reached 80 million liters. All seized materials were transferred to Mexico’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office. It is to establish the origin of the 59 million liters of fuel and determine who operated the complex. As of Friday morning, no arrests in connection with the operation had been reported.
