Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tykhyi spoke about the responsibilities of the special representative for Belarus, who is expected to be appointed in the near future.
He made these remarks during a conversation with journalists, according to a correspondent for "EP."
In late February, Zelenskyy announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was preparing candidates for the position of special representative on Belarus and the Belarusian community in Europe.
According to Tykhyi, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga will select candidates and propose them to Zelenskyy.
“The appointment of a special representative for Belarus will allow for better coordination of pressure on the regime, neutralization of the threats it poses, and support for democratic Belarusians who want to live in a democratic, European Belarus,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained.
He added that work is ongoing.
Belarus has released the detained trucks to allow them to return to Lithuania.
Earlier, a meeting of the National Security Commission was held in Lithuania to discuss the situation regarding the launch of balloons from Belarusian territory.
Belarus has transported over a thousand Lithuanian trucks, which were stranded after the border closure, to special parking lots near border crossing points, and is now using them to blackmail Lithuania. More than 220 drivers are currently being sought; they face administrative sanctions if they do not move to the designated sites.
Belarus reported that all Lithuanian trucks that remained on the shoulders of access roads to the border have been transported to special parking lots.
