54-year-old customs officer dies in road crash in Nigeria

A 54-year-old customs service officer, Etteng Ise, died in a road crash in Cross River State, Nigeria. The single-vehicle accident occurred on the Ikom–Calabar highway near the village of Alesi in the Ikom Local Government Area.

Car collided with a tree

According to Premium Times Nigeria, the crash occurred at around 14:56. Cross River State police spokesperson Sunday Eytokpa said that Ise, who served at the Mfum border post in the Etung Local Government Area, likely lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole.

According to the police representative, the vehicle left the road, entered the bushes and crashed into a tree. Ise was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Ikom, where a doctor pronounced him dead. The deceased's body was placed in the morgue of the medical facility.

Police appeal to drivers

Cross River State Police expressed condolences to Ise's family, his colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service. Law enforcement officers urged drivers to be careful on the roads, avoid speeding, monitor road conditions and take the necessary measures to prevent accidents.
