In Germany, 180 passengers were evacuated following an explosion on a train

On the evening of April 2, an emergency situation occurred at the train station in the German city of Siegburg. Law enforcement officials carried out a special operation lasting several hours following an incident on a high-speed train.

This was reported by Bild.

The train was heading to Frankfurt am Main when an object resembling a paintball grenade exploded in one of the cars, causing smoke to fill the area. As a result of the incident, 12 people sustained minor injuries, and one person was hospitalized. Approximately 180 passengers were evacuated from the train.

According to police, the suspect—a 20-year-old German citizen from Aachen—allegedly threatened to carry out an attack. According to eyewitnesses, one of the passengers managed to lock him in the train’s restroom until law enforcement arrived.

German Federal Police officers detained the man. During a search, they found a knife, a mask, and smoke grenades on him.

The area around the station was temporarily cordoned off, and passengers were transported to Frankfurt by bus. The situation was stabilized only after midnight.

The suspect is currently in custody. Investigators have opened a case on suspicion of causing serious bodily harm and violating laws on weapons and explosives. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, a suicide bomber blew himself up near a mosque. The explosion killed at least 31 people and injured another 169.
