Two fake police officers were arrested in Germany in a decommissioned patrol car

Police in the eastern German state of Thuringia have detained two men who were posing as law enforcement officers while driving around in a decommissioned police vehicle. 

The attention of real law enforcement officers was drawn by reports from local residents who noticed a suspicious patrol car with two men in uniform on Saturday in the village of Langenwetzendorf, in the Greiz district. As it turned out, the suspects’ vehicle was in its original factory condition—it retained all official identification marks, markings, and even blue flashing lights.

The fake police officers themselves were found to be wearing old law enforcement uniforms from the neighboring federal state of Saxony. During a cursory search, handcuffs and toy guns were found on the men and confiscated. Law enforcement officers forced the detainees to immediately remove their uniforms, and their car, which had just broken down during the arrest operation, was towed to a special impound lot.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the detained pair under articles regarding the unlawful assumption of authority and impersonation of public officials, as well as for violations of current weapons legislation.

Meanwhile, in international news, it was reported that the UK Home Office plans to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into its immigration system. AI will be used to verify data and prevent cases where adult asylum seekers attempt to pose as minors in order to receive additional benefits.
