A gunman who killed staff members at a shelter for mothers and children has been arrested in Germany

In the German city of Stade, law enforcement officers arrested a 45-year-old German citizen of Turkish descent who is suspected of murdering six employees of a shelter for mothers with children.

The tragedy occurred on June 29, 2026, during a scheduled meeting regarding custody of his three-month-old daughter.

According to the investigation, the man opened fire on the facility’s staff.

Six people were killed in the attack—four women and two men who worked at the facility, which is dedicated to protecting children and supporting mothers.

According to authorities, the likely cause of the crime was a family conflict and a dispute over custody of the child. Investigators believe that these circumstances may have been the motive for the attack.

During the tragedy, the suspect’s three-month-old daughter was in the building with her mother. Despite the shooting, the child was unharmed.

German law enforcement agencies are currently continuing their investigation to establish all the circumstances surrounding one of the most high-profile crimes in the country in recent times.

This is being reported on German social media.

As a reminder, the shooting occurred on Dunkerstrasse in the southern part of the city, within a complex that, among other things, houses temporary housing for pregnant women and young mothers with children. Several injured people remain in medical facilities, some of whom are in critical condition, so police have not ruled out the possibility that the number of victims may rise further. Investigators quickly detained two suspects, one of whom, according to preliminary information from law enforcement, is the direct perpetrator of the crime, and efforts are currently underway to determine the motives and circumstances of the tragedy.

Subsequently, in the German city of Stade, located in the federal state of Lower Saxony, the death toll from the shooting at a youth social services center rose to six. Five people—one man and four women—died at the scene, while the sixth victim died later in the hospital from severe injuries

In the German town of Otterndorf in the federal state of Lower Saxony, police launched an investigation after far-right and neo-Nazi music was played over the official sound system at a local Christmas market.
