An explosion occurred near the FBI office in New York

In Lower Manhattan, near the building on Foley Square that houses the offices of dozens of federal agencies (including the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement), an explosion occurred in a trash can. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and no one was injured as a result of the incident. 

The investigation has been handed over to the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, and law enforcement officials currently believe the incident was an act targeting the activities of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Police detained one suspect directly on the building’s staircase. During a search, officers found helmets, a halogen lamp, and an airsoft gun with ammunition that was designed to look like a real firearm. The suspect did not open fire.
