Violence-related deaths in Pakistan rise 83% — Dawn
Pakistan recorded at least 1,415 violence-related deaths in the third quarter of 2026, 83% more than in the previous quarter. This follows from a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Dawn reports.
Between July and September, there were 385 incidents related to terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations. They also left 558 people injured. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa together accounted for 98% of all deaths during this period.
Balochistan became the hardest-hit region
Balochistan recorded 829 deaths, or nearly 59% of the nationwide total, and 186 incidents. The number of deaths in the province rose by 213%, from 265 in the second quarter to 829 in the third. Balochistan also surpassed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in both the number of deaths and recorded incidents.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 556 deaths and 173 incidents. At the same time, it had the highest number of injured people, with 376, while 163 people were injured in Balochistan. The number of deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased by more than 17%, from 475 to 556.

Casualties among civilians and security personnel
People whom CRSS classifies as outlaws accounted for the majority of deaths: 921, or more than 65% of the total. According to the report, this followed nearly 154 security operations. The number of such deaths rose by 103% compared with the second quarter, when 453 cases were recorded.
The number of civilian deaths increased by nearly 36%, from 187 to 254. Losses among security personnel rose by more than 79%, from 134 to 240 people. The combined number of civilian and security personnel deaths was 494.
Among groups claiming responsibility for attacks, the TTP reported 13 attacks in the third quarter, in which 117 people were killed and 65 injured. The BLA claimed five attacks with 34 dead and 42 injured, while HGB-IUM claimed three attacks that resulted in 27 deaths and 129 injuries.
