In Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir PM orders expansion of tax base
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani, in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, instructed the regional Inland Revenue Department to implement an effective strategy to meet revenue targets and expand the tax base. Dawn reports.

During a meeting on the work of the Inland Revenue Department, Gillani also called for creating a simpler, more transparent and more taxpayer-friendly system. According to him, this should reduce difficulties for citizens and businesses.
The meeting reviewed revenue collection, progress toward meeting targets, expanding the pool of taxpayers and other issues concerning the department's work. The meeting was attended by Inland Revenue Department Secretary and Central Board of Revenue Chairman Younis Mir, Inland Revenue Commissioners North Basil Siddiq and South Syed Anser Ali, Central Board of Revenue Secretary Dr. Shazia Habib and other officials.

Gillani stated that improving revenue collection is important for increasing the region's resources and ensuring financial stability. He also stressed that taxpayers must be provided with the greatest possible convenience, while transparency, monitoring and administrative efficiency in tax matters should be strengthened.
Food safety
Separately, during a meeting of the food department, Gillani instructed officials to ensure the full operation and strengthening of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Safety Authority. He stated that compromises on public health are unacceptable and that violators of food safety laws must face strict and non-discriminatory measures.
The head of the regional government also instructed officials to strengthen the inspection and monitoring system and ensure visible results of inspections to maintain food quality. The meeting was attended by Food Department Secretary Shahid Ayub, Food Safety Authority Director General Abdul Hamid Kiani and other officials. They were presented with information on the work of the department and authority, the current inspection system and plans for its improvement.
