Pakistani journalist Bilal Ghauri granted bail after arrest — Dawn
Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman in Islamabad, Pakistan, granted journalist Bilal Ghauri bail following his arrest in a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). As Dawn reports, the court ordered the journalist’s release upon fulfillment of the bail conditions.
Defense arguments
At the hearing, Ghauri was represented by lawyer Imran Shafiq. He stated that the case had been filed with malicious intent and that the allegations against his client lacked sufficient evidentiary support.
According to the lawyer, the prosecution failed to substantiate the key claims in the case. Therefore, the defense asked the court to grant the journalist post-arrest bail.
