98 dengue cases detected in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a week
In Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 98 cases of dengue fever were confirmed in one week—the highest weekly figure in the past 34 weeks. The previous week, 87 confirmed cases were recorded in the region. According to Dawn, the period of high dengue transmission will last until the end of October.
Kohat records the highest number of new cases
The highest number of new cases this week was detected in Kohat district—41. Peshawar recorded 33 cases, Bannu 10, while the number of patients in other endemic districts remained in single digits.
Peshawar, the provincial capital, leads in the total number of cases with 220. It is followed by Kohat with 209 cases, Bannu with 52, Haripur with 26, and Dera Ismail Khan with 11. Ten cases each were detected in Bajaur, Swabi, and Swat; Charsadda recorded nine, while Nowshera and Mohmand recorded eight each.
The Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System at the Directorate General Health Services reported that 3,487 people suspected of having dengue were examined in hospitals across the province. The diagnosis was confirmed in 581 patients.

Prevention and control
In 11 districts, mosquito larvae breeding sites were identified and destroyed by mechanical and chemical methods. Health workers are conducting prevention awareness activities: 59,267 community meetings were organized in the province, attended by 56,777 men and 236,334 women. In addition, 35 seminars and awareness walks were held.
During inspections, 211,206 houses were checked. Larvae were found and destroyed in 529 houses, as well as in 934 of the 779,318 containers inspected. Another 286 open sites where larvae were found were treated with chemicals.
Health officials said that the situation is currently under control and that outbreaks have been prevented thanks to a rapid response. During the same period last year, more than one thousand dengue cases were detected in the province and four deaths were recorded; no fatalities have been recorded so far this year.
