In Poland, a drone is helping the police catch drivers who flash their headlights

In Poland, flashing headlights—a practice drivers use to warn other road users about a traffic checkpoint—is considered a traffic violation. Recently, in one of the provinces, the Polish police used a drone to identify drivers who were warning others about traffic checkpoints in this way.

Where and how exactly did the police record these violations?

Myślenice is a city in southern Poland, located in the Raba River valley (approximately 35 km south of Kraków).

It is the administrative center of Myslenice County in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

Recently, the press office of the local law enforcement agency reminded all drivers that flashing headlights to warn others about the police is an offense.

To identify drivers engaging in such behavior on the roads, on September 30, 2026, the city’s traffic police conducted special operations using a drone for surveillance.

It is noted that these operations were organized in two municipalities:

  • Myślenice;

  • Tokarnia.

“Flashing your headlights to warn others about the police? That’s a violation,” law enforcement officials emphasized, sharing footage from the operations.

What penalties do drivers face for flashing their headlights?

The Myślenice police reported that they inspected 71 vehicles during the operations.

In total, law enforcement officers recorded 76 violations.

“As many as 47 drivers warned others about the checkpoint by flashing their headlights,” the press office stated.

Residents and visitors to Poland were also reminded that the penalty for such an offense is:

  • a fine of 200 zlotys (as of October 5, 2026, this is approximately 2,300 hryvnias);

  • 4 penalty points.

“Remember! You never know who you’re warning,” the police noted.

Law enforcement officials explained that it could be “a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” or even “someone wanted for another crime.”

This was reported with reference to a post by the press service of the Myślenice Police (Policja Myślenice) on Facebook.
