IDF reports strikes on nearly 100,000 targets over three years — Jerusalem Post

On October 7, the Israel Defense Forces released a report stating that it had struck nearly 100,000 targets since the start of the war on October 7, 2023. As the Jerusalem Post reports, the document also contains data on ballistic missile launches, military casualties, and the creation of new formations.

Data on strikes and missile launches

According to the Israeli army, about 65,000 targets were attacked in the Gaza Strip. Another 28,000 targets were in Lebanon and Syria, 4,500 in Iran, and 80 in Yemen.

The IDF report also listed the number of ballistic missiles launched during this period: 50 from Syria, 1,200 from Iran, 20,000 from Lebanon, 10,200 from the Gaza Strip, and 90 from Yemen.

Separately, the army published graphics featuring senior representatives of Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who, according to the IDF, were killed. Those named include former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, the group's former Executive Council head Hashem Safieddine, Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades commander Mohammed Deif, IRGC Aerospace Force commander Ali Hajizadeh, and IRGC commander-in-chief Hossein Salami.

New formations and military casualties

The document lists changes in various commands. The Southern Command, according to the army, created about 40 new strongpoints. The Intelligence Directorate formed a special unit for preserving and extracting intelligence information, while the Air Force developed separate command structures and decentralized some authority in the field.

The Central Command created the 96th Gilead Division on the eastern border and the Dead Sea Air Command. The Home Front Command developed warning and protection systems, including work on extending the time available for protection and adapting it to the nature of the threat and the terrain.

The IDF stated that 970 service members have been killed since the start of the war. More than 70% of the wounded, according to the army, returned to service, while the number of reservists increased by about 36%. The military also created nine new divisions; the named formations include the Ha-Shomer Brigade, the David Brigades, and the 38th Division.
