In the Polish town of Pszczyna, two men armed with machetes attacked Ukrainian citizens, targeting them because of their nationality.
This was reported by the district prosecutor’s office in Ostrołęka.
The incident occurred on the night of February 19, 2026. According to the investigation, the attackers themselves admitted that they attacked the men precisely because they were Ukrainians.
One of the victims was injured by a machete blow. Another Ukrainian rushed to his aid but was also injured—both sustained cuts to their hands and fingers.
The attack was stopped thanks to a local resident who helped drag the injured man into the house and shut the door on the attackers.
One of the attackers was detained immediately after the incident; the other went into hiding for nearly a month but was eventually arrested as well.
The suspects are charged with assault, threats, and a hate crime. They face up to 12 years in prison.
Ukrainians residing in Poland may lose their right to reside and work if they do not update their information.
Starting in 2026, a new EU control system will be in effect for Ukrainians entering Poland.
